What do you like most about working at Diver?
At Diver, I've got really friendly co-workers, and that makes the job a lot of fun. Also, the Diver reputation is known far and wide, so people come here realizing that they're going to get a great car-buying experience, and that's really satisfying.
My colleagues are always willing to help, not only one another but also our customers. There's also a good working relationship between new- and used-car sales, which, in my experience, isn't very common in the auto industry. We don't compete, but complement one other really well.
How do most people buy cars in Wilmington?
Most of our customers are educated buyers and have done their homework before coming to the dealership. Most customers think they know what they want, but in many cases they change their direction once they get here and see what's available.
What are the rewards of your job?
We have flexible schedules, and get competitive pay & benefits. It's also really nice to work for a family-owned and -operated dealership rather than a big, corporate entity.
What trends have you seen lately?
People lease more cars than they used to, and there's a lot more use of social networking. There's also a lot more competition in the auto industry now, so we have to do our job better than ever.
What's the most memorable sale that you've made at Diver?
I got a phone call from a guy in Florida on an in-stock Sonic he had found on our website. I picked the customer up at the airport, we completed the sale, and he drove the car home all the way down the east coast on Sunday. That was pretty cool.
What is it about the Diver sales team that makes it uniquely qualified to satisfy Wilmington's auto needs?
I think we have a lot of diversity, especially in age groups, to accommodate different customers' needs. Also, I'd say that while employee turn-over is a common problem in the auto industry, we have a lower turn-over rate than most. With a good number of career employees, we have the knowledge and experience to take care of all of your auto needs.
